How to Get a Rebate:
    1. Verify that your property is located in the service area of a utility participating in the Saving Water Partnership. (If you own commercial or multifamily property, see Rebate #3 or call (206) 684-5955 for information on custom rebates.)

    2. Make sure your existing (installed for at least two years) in-ground sprinkler system is operated by a controller (or clock) that automatically turns the system on and off. Manual systems do not qualify for existing system upgrades.

    3. Have your sprinkler system inspected by a landscape or irrigation contractor licensed with Washington State. See Choosing a Contractor (PDF) for a list of irrigation contractors who hold certifications from various professional organizations. .

    4. Work with your contractor to determine whether you can benefit from a new rain sensor and/or updated controller. If your existing system does not have a rain sensor, you are eligible for the rain sensor rebate. If your existing controller does not meet conservation specifications, you are eligible for the controller rebate. You may choose to add either the Conservation Controller, Evapotranspiration (ET) Controller, or Soil Moisture Sensor(s) in combination with a Conservation Controller. For details, see Service Requirements & Product Specifications. (PDF)

    5. Have your contractor conduct a Three-Point Inspection (PDF) of your sprinkler system and install a rain sensor and/or controller according to manufacturers' specifications.

    6. Fill out the Rebate #1: Existing Sprinkler System Rebate application (PDF), attach copies of receipts for the 3-point inspection and equipment upgrades (invoices must be itemized to reflect work), and get appropriate signatures from your contractor.

    7. Send the completed application with required documentation to the Seattle Public Utilities address listed on the rebate application form.

    8. Submit the application within 90 days of installation, and in advance of the Dec. 1, 2008 deadline.

    9. Keep your old controller. You will be contacted by Seattle Public Utilities to schedule an inspection of your old controller and system upgrades before a rebate check will be issued.
